Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about privacy-first QR code generation
Privacy & Security
Do you track my QR code generation?
Never. We don't track, log, or store anything about your QR codes. No analytics, no cookies, no fingerprinting. When you generate a QR code, it's created entirely in your session and immediately forgotten once you leave.
Where is my data stored?
Nowhere. Your QR codes are generated on-demand and never saved to our servers. The only thing that exists is the image file you download. We have no database of user-generated codes.
Can you see the content of my QR codes?
No. Your data is processed server-side only during generation, then immediately discarded. We don't log, cache, or retain any information about what you encode.
Do you share data with third parties?
There's nothing to share. We don't use analytics services, ad networks, or any third-party tracking. This website is a disruption to the "you are the product" model of "free" online services based on data selling and analysis.
QR Code Generation
What types of QR codes can I create?
We support all major QR code types: URLs, plain text, vCards (contact cards), calendar events (ICS), email addresses, phone numbers, SMS, WiFi credentials, geolocation coordinates, Bitcoin addresses, and deep links for mobile apps.
Can I customize my QR codes?
Absolutely. You can customize colors, add gradients, embed logos, adjust corner radius, and choose from multiple formats (PNG, SVG, WebP). All customization happens server-side for consistent quality.
What's the difference between PNG, SVG, and WebP?
SVG is vector-based and scales infinitely without quality loss—perfect for any medium, notably print. PNG is universal and widely supported. WebP offers smaller file sizes with excellent quality.
How do I add a logo to my QR code?
Upload your logo using the customization options. We automatically center and scale it while maintaining QR code readability. The logo is embedded directly—no external requests, no tracking.
Are gradient QR codes supported?
Yes. We generate gradient QR codes in SVG first to preserve quality, then convert to raster formats using ImageMagick. This ensures your gradients look perfect in any output format.
Technical Details
Do QR codes expire?
Never. Static QR codes (which is what we generate) contain all data directly in the code itself. They work forever, offline, with no dependency on our service or any URL shortener.
What's the maximum data size?
QR codes can technically hold up to ~4,000 characters, but readability decreases with size. For best results, keep URLs under 200 characters and text under 500 characters.
Why don't you offer dynamic QR codes?
Dynamic QR codes require a redirect service that tracks every scan. That's surveillance, not service. We believe QR codes should be truly static: no middleman, no tracking, no single point of failure.
Can I scan QR codes created here with any reader?
Yes. We generate standard-compliant QR codes that work with every QR code reader, including native smartphone cameras. No proprietary formats, no lock-in.
Usage & Licensing
Is this service free?
Yes, completely free. No registration, no premium tiers, no hidden costs. However, if you find it useful, your contribution is welcomed. By "useful", we mean you find it cool or you actually use it regularly. In the latter case, we trust you to use it fairly
Can I use the QR codes commercially?
Absolutely. The QR codes you generate are yours to use however you want—personal, commercial, print, digital. No attribution required, no restrictions.
Do you plan to add ads or tracking in the future?
Never. This is a principle, not a temporary business strategy. If we can't sustain the service without surveillance, we'll shut it down before compromising user privacy.
Can I self-host this?
The code is not currently open-source, but we're considering it. If you're interested in self-hosting or contributing, get in touch.
Troubleshooting
My QR code won't scan. What's wrong?
Check these common issues: (1) Ensure sufficient contrast between foreground and background colors, (2) Don't make the QR code too small when printed, (3) Verify your data is valid, (4) If using a logo, make sure it doesn't cover too much of the code.
Why does my WiFi QR code not work?
Ensure your WiFi password doesn't contain special characters that need escaping (quotes, backslashes). Also verify the encryption type matches your network (WPA/WPA2 vs WEP).
The download button doesn't work.
This is usually a browser popup blocker. Allow popups for this site, or right-click the QR code and select "Save Image As".
Philosophy & Approach
What does "privacy by design" mean for QR codes?
It means building the service from the ground up to make surveillance impossible, not just unlikely. We don't have a database to leak. We don't have logs to subpoena. We don't have analytics to get hacked. Privacy isn't a feature—it's the architecture.
Why is this approach "disruptive"?
Most QR code services are overblown with features - We offer the essence of the QR Code. They profit from tracking users and scan analytics. They treat your QR codes as surveillance infrastructure. We're disrupting that model by proving you can offer a superior service without exploiting users. No tracking means no data breaches, no compliance headaches, no creepy targeting.
How do you sustain this without ads or tracking?
Currently this is a passion project, sustained by principle and minimal infrastructure costs. We simply trus people i.e. if they do find the service useful, they will contribute. If usage grows beyond sustainability, we'll explore ethical funding models—but never at the cost of user privacy.
